You Can't Outhink Crazy

The tragedy that unfolded in Tucson is a classic example of mental disease or defect going unchecked. The shooter, it's been reported, has experienced and exhibited signs since high school. If anyone had done any "recon" (no, I don't mean crawling beyond enemy lines to determine enemy numbers and positions) in the early stages of this guys life, maybe this tragedy could have been averted. Because of all the complaints about him in college, he had to have been on someones "radar" (no, I don't mean that he was actually being tracked via sonar and radar waves that projected onto a screen). I understand that it's difficult to do anything about someone who hasn't actually hurt anyone yet. There are many people wandering the streets who have issues but never do others harm. Making a determination on a case by case basis can really be a "mine field" (no, I don't mean that these people are actually in a field surrounded by buried explosives). I do think that at some point these people need to wind up in someones "cross hairs" (no, I don't mean that he should have had snipers taking aim at him). As opposed to all the divisiveness, I really think we should "Marshall the troops" (no, I don't mean that we should assemble and arm a battalion of soldiers) and support the victims of this horrible crime. I believe that we should "reload, not retreat" (no, I don't mean we should get more ammunition instead of taking a fall back position) when it comes to our elected officials being able to conduct town hall style meetings with their constituents. With all the various groups out there trying to play the blame game in regard to the cause of this persons rage, I really think we should "lock and load" (no, I don't mean we should fill our magazines with bullets and chamber a round) and be ready to fight against specific finger pointing. It doesn't come from everyone. We really should make it more of a "surgical strike" (no, I don't mean we should use laser guided missiles to destroy a very specific target) against those who would take advantage of this tragedy to disparage another group. Regardless of who they are, or who they're "aiming for" (no, I don't mean they're looking down the barrel of a gun with fixed or adjustable sights). I'll go ahead and "fire the first salvo" (no, I don't mean an initial artillery barrage) and say this, the guy is CRAZY! No military metaphors or talk radio made him do anything! This means war!
