Time for a little R & R

This seemingly idyllic pairing has been in the works since 2007. That's right, not just another glamour pick. OK, P90X has made Ryan's Ab's a topic of conversation on google (and oogle) but wasn't the reason he was chosen as a running mate to Mitt Romney. It was early 2007 when Romney decided he needed to confer with Ryan, who had recently become the ranking Republican on the powerful House budget committee. This was the beginning of a long courtship in which these two would speak, or not, over the next five years. Romney, who endorsed an individual mandate, and Ryan, who proposed a semi voucher system, were fundamentally at odds. These two were knee deep in numbers, more so than most actuaries, but were aiming at the same target. It wasn't until late in the 2012 campaign that Ryan got a better feel for the kind of reformer Romney was. I can't believe Ryan, especially at his age, would piggy back with someone he was uncomfortable with. The discussion had to be more argumentative than "back and fourth". My hope is that Mitt did the picking with a clear vision that Ryan would be his economic policy equal, or better. A spearhead for cutting down the entitlement mentality and adding incentive to the job creators through various incentives (yes, tax breaks) that put people back to work. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker said it best when he said "The nominee is saying: I share this philosophy. It's not enough to get elected - I want to fundamentally transform this government". Tom Rath, a political advisor to Romney, said it well when he reffered to them as "in essence, wonks". I think Ryan said it best when he told a recent crowd "We promise equal opportunity, not equal outcome". Here's to the wonks!
