Policeman Should Be Paid
Throughout the United States (and the world) Policeman are paid. Paid well, which is fine. A great number of these individuals, City Police, County Sheriffs and State Troopers, put their lives on the line from time to time to keep us safe. They help prevent criminals from robbing us of both material items and freedoms. For this service, we as taxpayers all pony up, for the most part through our property taxes and various fees imposed by City and County governments. To police; control and regulation of affairs affecting the general order and welfare of any unit or area. By now I'm sure you're wondering where I'm going with this. WRONG!, it has nothing to do with unions, everything to do with the United States' moral compass and national checkbook. After joining in the coalition to enforce a "no fly" zone on Lybia, my first thoughts were "great, get that madman with a thousand different spellings of his name out of there!" Then came the questions, "who are we helping, the rebels?" Furthermore, who are the rebels? OK, Qaddafi forces can no longer rain bombs on their own civilians through the air, noble, good and righteous. I bet by now they've figured out that they could drive tanks over and shoot 'em. Just a bit more inconvenient. Well, to stop these rag heads from killing each other, it's costing you and I $1 million per Tomahawk missile (we launched 112 the first day), $10,000 an hour to fly F-15's and F-16's (no clue how many hours have been put in, these policeman don't punch a clock). These costs don't include the personnel, whose special duty pay will kick in immediately. That's an expensive opening day (I thought the beer at baseball games was expensive!). We need to get paid. I've heard too much about us being "The World's Policeman". Is this the new "Obama Doctrine", and if so, why have we stood by and watched in Sudan? Yemen? Syria? The code pink peace president is the one who authored the surge in Afghanistan, 1000's of unmanned drone missile attacks inside Pakistan, and now whatever you want to call this Lybia thing. At what point does our police force get paid? Oil, diamonds, cash reserves? Everyone has something to offer and we should start insisting they pony up. Otherwise, my moral compass is spinning out of control while the ol' checkbook gets drained.
