Sunday Wisconsin Potpourri

Where to start? Let's go back a week to our favorite do nothing representative from Wisconsin's Fourth Congressional district, Gwen Moore. Last weeks Journal Sentinel's editorial from Gwen (I've never held a private sector job in my life) Moore had her actually saying "we can't cut our way to a balanced budget". That's what she said, but not what she meant. What she was really getting at was that she doesn't want any cuts to the invasive entitlement programs that fuel the majority of her constituents. Let's review, since 2005 she has sponsored 34 bills, of which 32 never got out of committee, with a grand total of zero ever being successfully enacted. My personal favorite was what I like to call her "Hooptys in the Hood" bill. Actually HR 2349, a bill to give government grants to low income individuals to buy automobiles. Yeah, that never got out of committee either. No, her latest editorial didn't put forth any recommendations or solutions. Just the tired old cry from the left "they're going to kill babies and seniors!". Right, that keeps getting people elected. Yes, cuts in spending, especially discretionary spending, will help balance the budget. Enough about Gwen (I've never met an entitlement program I didn't like) Moore. Let's move on to the recent Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice election. Boy oh boy, what a whopper of a snafu this has become. I swear when County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus admitted the tally mistake, and said it was plain and simple human error, the left was gonna go nuts. Not just because it put their favored candidate behind, but because they were trying to figure out how to sue humanity! Human error?, that doesn't point us in the right direction to file suit! Madison Rep. Tammy Baldwin has asked the Justice Department to investigate Waukesha County vote results. An error was discovered during vote canvassing. You know, the vote canvassing that takes place after every election to determine there were no errors. Well, the canvassing turned up errors which is exactly why we have canvassing! Her request of the Justice Department doesn't include looking into Milwaukee, Winnebago, Crawford, Shawano, Vernon, Rusk, Iowa, Door, Portage and Grant counties. All of these, some of which turned up additional votes for Kloppenburg, had discrepancies uncovered during official canvassing. The votes in Waukesha County weren't "found" as so many have reported. They make it sound like they turned up in the trunk of a car in Chicago. It was an error! Have you ever not saved a document before closing? Deleted a file accidentally? If we were to take everything reported at the end of the election day serious, they wouldn't call them "unofficial results". Dewey defeats Truman? Thus, canvassing and certification. Duh, winning!
