An economic stimulus that hits home
Handouts, bailouts, subsidies, stimulus. I've grown to hate the phrase, however, Wall Street got it's turn, now how about Main Street. With the various amounts of money bantered about, billions and trillions, it makes a million seem so inconsequential. When I was little, millions of anything seemed like the pie in the sky max. Now, not so much. All the state's Governors and Mayors handed in their wish lists recently for projects of infrastructure, job creation and economic stimulus. Some make sense (road and bridge repair projects) and some I just can't get my head around the government paying for (a mob museum in Vegas? Seems redundant). I would like to officially throw my hat in the ring that is "stimulus". I've decided this spring I'm going to convert the dead space next to my garage into a "green, urban, ecologically friendly living space" for my family. With the cement work that would need to be done, I would employ 4-6 contrators and pump an estimated $5,000.00 into the local economy. The arbor I'd use as a shading element would allow my family to dine in outdoor comfort while reducing our carbon footprint. Not using ceiling fans or air conditioning will almost certainly make the oceans fill and the skys that much more blue. Oh yeah, and I'd be employing 2-4 craftsmen and pumping approximately another $3,000.00 into the local economy. I'd continue along the green path with all new landscaping that would emit enough fresh oxygen to bring back a dinosaur. For this I would need to employ 2-4 laborers and pump yet another $1,500.00 into the local economy. I would also have them build a small fountain that would emit the soothing sounds of flowing water. This would surely reduce my stress level and act as a preventative health maintenance plan. I could almost completely stop seeing doctors thus reducing health care costs for my family and unburdening the system to care for all the uninsured. Of course, I'd need to employ 2-4 landscapers to complete this portion of the project as well as pumping another $2,500.00 into the local economy. My personal economic stimulus plan would create jobs for upwards of 18 Americans (except the landscapers, I'm sure they'd be illegals). I would also be sending nearly $12,000.00 back into the local economy, stimulating more growth. My family would be happy and stress free. You cannot put a price on a family unit that consists of a mother, father, and two of their own children (I know, that's a highly atypical family unit here in Milwaukee). Well, I think I was able to hit on all the criteria necessary for a stimulus handout. Job creation, economic stimulus, and environmental impact (health care was a gimme). Truly a stimulus plan that hits home! Who do I submit this to?
